Artificial Intelligence and automation has been making quite a shiver in job market and the latest job that is getting threatened is of restaurant waiters. Robots equipped with AI, at a restaurant named the Enjoy Budapest Cafe can not only serve up food and drinks but can also dance with kids, tell jokes or just have a chit chat with customers.
The cafe, opened by IT company E-Szoftverfejlesztő in the Hungarian capital, is staffed by a whole team of robots that are a result of technological revolution in automation and artificial intelligence. The robot waiters deliver food and drink orders to customers and follow a fixed path and customers are asked to keep out of the robots’ way. Other robots serve up entertainment, such as Pepper, a “receptionist” robot that can dance with kids and strike a conversation.
Pepper developed by Japanese company SoftBank had to be modified to be able to hear customers in the noisy environment of a cafe, owner Tibor Csizmadia says.

Customers in their feedback say that they are charmed by receptionist Pepper’s antics and were impressed by the laborious working style of her ‘waiter’ colleagues. As of now Enjoy Budapest Cafe’s robots aren’t putting anyone out of a job yet, but, an AI machine can definitely put the services of human at the backseat.
Tibor Csizmadia says the “We actually employ twice as many people as before, because to operate 16 to 20 robots from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. we need to have IT specialists in the background,”
We need to just wait and watch for more transformations to take place but, in the meantime we must enjoy the service of Pepper and other waiter robots.
